Fallen - Debt Collector 6

Fallen (Debt Collector, #6)Fallen by Susan Kaye Quinn

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Spoilers for previous Debt Collector books are unavoidable. I give this book 5 stars. Susan Kaye Quinn earned every one of them in this book, showing writer's courage that I only see in A list writers. I recommend this book. If you haven't read this book or any of the previous books in the "season" but plan to, please stop to avoid spoilers. Events are interesting, exciting, and there is plenty of tension and suspense. Pick up the whole "season" and enjoy all the books.

This book is Debt Collector 6 - Fallen. It is book 6 of 9 in this "season". It covers two days of Lirium's life as a debt collector in an extremely complicated situation.

Lirium is still driven to save himself and Ophelia from their unpleasant situation. In the course of this book Ophelia, the shark, shows some change in her attitude towards her "guppy", Lirium.

Valac, the debt collector giving Lirium and Ophelia their work assignments has been angry at them for days. Potentially lethally angry. Each for different reasons. In this book he seems furious at Lirium. On "work day" Valac comes early to Lirium and tells him to dress then takes him to the roof where Lirium believes he's either going to drain him or toss him off the roof.

Similar to what happens in an earlier book, Valac is talkative, even demanding answers. He wants to know why Lirium made stupid decisions Valac explicitly told him to avoid at all costs. Lirium's eventual reply drains Valac, like all the air out of balloon. The change is sudden, obvious, and escapes Lirium's comprehension.

When Valac comes to pick up Lirium to go to work a short time later, he's uncharacteristically open to Lirium's suggestions.

During the meeting to pay out to a special client there's more than one complicated problem causing things to go sideways. During these problems Ophelia and Lirium manage to get a few moments together to make some nefarious plans.

Later when Lirium and Ophelia are set to put their plan into motion, everything goes haywire. Unexpected behaviors by several people are an understatement. Turns out everyone has different plans, all apparently unknown to each of the others.

The clever writing of Susan Kaye Quinn in this book exceptional.

I recommend all the books so far. This book may cause you to do an Amazon search to see what else Susan Kay Quinn has published. She really did earn all 5 stars I gave her for this book. I also recommend the original Mindjack series that starts with Open Minds. I liked them too.
